The Importance of Digital Citizenship
This week, we were to answer the questions about why being a good digital citizenship is important and explain the value of a good digital citizenship.
Being a good digital citizen is important because it helps you understand the appropriate uses for the internet. It also helps keep you informed about the internet etiquette, or netiquette, and internet regulations. Being a good digital citizen means that you are aware of the do's and don'ts of the internet.
In our society today, the internet is one of the most important means of communication. Your reputation follows you around just like in everyday life. I would not want to be a person that had a bad reputation. A good digital citizen is aware of their social media participation. They make sure never to post negative things, they never make negative comments about anyone else, and they are aware of the photos that they may be tagged in by friends and family. Just one negative post or picture can ruin a good reputation. A good citizen is aware that a potential employer might check their Facebook, Twitter, or other social media account when making a decision about hiring them.
True a good digital citizen must respect themselves as well as others.They should also use digital security to protect themselves from virus.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lesson that so many young people need to learn before they make an egregious mistake. I recently read about a young person who participated in "sexting" (this was in the Uk) and had charges pressed against her. She is now worried that she will not be able to pursue her dream of teaching because of that incident. Much better that she was aware of this possible repercussion prior to committing a serious lapse of good judgement! Maybe good digital citizenship should be part of the school's curriculum in tech class.
